Notes on download and installation

Downloading and extracting
The download file is a compressed ZIP archive. Before the data it contains can be used, it will need to be fully extracted first after it has been downloaded. From Windows XP onwards, you do not need to install any other programs to be able to do this. In older versions of Windows and in operating systems other than Windows, you might need a third-party program to perform the extraction (e.g. "UnZip", "UltimateZip", "WinZip", "WinRAR", etc. - most of these are legally available on the Internet free of charge as free full-license versions or as free limited trial versions).
  • In Windows XP, you can open the ZIP archive simply by double-clicking on the downloaded and saved file. As soon as the ZIP archive has opened, copy all the folders and files it contains at once to a different or new folder of your choice.
  • In other operating systems, you might have to open the saved download file using the third-party program. Then extract the entire contents of this ZIP archive to a different or new folder of your choice in accordance with the instructions for this third-party program.
Using the extracted data
As soon as the data have all been extracted to a folder, you can access the vehicle-specific data by opening the "start" or "start.html" file in this folder. You simply need a web or HTML browser (e.g. "Internet Explorer", "Netscape Navigator", "Mozilla", "Firefox", "Opera", "Safari", "Chrome", etc.) and a viewer for PDF files (e.g. "Adobe Acrobat Reader").

Mobile usage
You can also use the extracted data on portable devices (e.g. PDA, Palm, smartphone, tablet, etc.). This requires that a suitable HTML browser and, where possible, also a PDF reader be installed on the device and that the data can be transferred to the device.
To allow the transfer of data, some portable devices come with a suitable cable or a docking station and a synchronisation program. Alternatively, many portable devices also have removable storage media (e.g. CD-ROM, USB stick, CompactFlash, MultiMediaCard, SecureDigital, memory stick, microSD, etc.) for transferring data or enabling devices to be used as data carriers.
For more on how to transfer data to your specific portable device, please refer to the user information that came with your device.
No matter how the data are transferred, it is important for all data to be copied to the portable device or data carrier storage exactly as they appeared when extracted (i.e. all folders and files of the ZIP archive). You will then need to be able to open/start the "start" or "start.html" file on the portable device using a suitable application. For more details, please refer to the user information for your portable device.
